Routine vaccineAn annual flu vaccine is one of the simplest, most effective ways to protect yourself and your family from influenza and its complications. Our doctors give the influenza vaccine at all our clinics — with CHAS, Healthier SG and MediSave subsidies for those who qualify.
Influenza is a contagious respiratory infection caused by influenza viruses, spread through droplets when people cough, sneeze or talk. Unlike the common cold, influenza tends to come on suddenly and hit harder — and it can cause severe, even life-threatening complications such as pneumonia.
In Singapore, influenza circulates all year round with peaks around December to February and May to July. Older adults, young children, pregnant women and people with chronic conditions are most at risk of serious illness.
The flu vaccine is recommended for everyone from six months of age. It is strongly recommended for those at higher risk of complications:
Protect the vulnerable family members who depend on you.
High exposure, and close contact with at-risk patients.
Airports and crowded spaces raise your exposure.
Teachers, service staff and anyone facing the public daily.
Singapore uses the quadrivalent influenza vaccine, which protects against four strains — two influenza A and two influenza B. It's given as a quick injection into the upper arm.

Influenza viruses mutate constantly. Guided by WHO surveillance, the vaccine is reformulated and released twice a year — a Southern Hemisphere (SH) version around April to September, and a Northern Hemisphere (NH) version around October to March.
Because Singapore sits near the equator and flu circulates year-round, either formulation may be recommended depending on the season and which strains have changed. Our doctors always carry the current vaccine and will advise which one is right for you.
Influenza vaccine composition is reviewed twice a year by the World Health Organization. Our clinics stock the current formulation — speak to our doctors, or see CDA’s vaccination guidance, for the latest recommendations.
The influenza vaccine is a single yearly injection for most people.
Most people have no trouble at all. Reactions are usually mild and short-lived.
Severe allergic reactions and neurological complications such as Guillain-Barré syndrome are extremely uncommon — in the order of one in a million doses — and far less likely than serious complications from influenza itself. Seek medical attention promptly if you develop a rash, facial swelling or breathing difficulty after vaccination.
Influenza vaccination is nationally recommended, so several schemes help lower — or remove — the cost.
Fully subsidised nationally recommended vaccinations, including the flu vaccine, for eligible enrollees at their enrolled clinic.
Subsidies at CHAS GP clinics for seniors and adults in nationally recommended groups under NAIS.
Subsidised influenza vaccination for eligible children under the National Childhood Immunisation Schedule.
Eligible Singapore Citizens and PRs can use MediSave towards the cost of the influenza vaccine.
Quick, simple, and usually done within a single short visit.
