MOM medical examinationNot every S Pass candidate needs a medical examination. MOM states that the In-Principle Approval (IPA) letter tells you whether one is required after arrival in Singapore. Check the IPA first — then, if a medical is needed, our clinics complete it with on-site chest X-ray.
Several clinics state flatly that an S Pass candidate "must undergo a medical examination". MOM says otherwise. Its own guidance is that the In-Principle Approval letter "states whether the candidate needs to go for a medical examination after their arrival in Singapore".
If your candidate's IPA does not call for one, you don't need to book a medical examination at all. Check the letter first — it takes a moment and may save you a fee.

Where the IPA requires it, the S Pass medical examination is carried out after the candidate arrives in Singapore, by a Singapore-registered doctor. The completed medical examination form is then submitted when the employer gets the pass issued.
MOM's guidance does not publish a fixed test list on the S Pass page. The tests required are those set out on MOM's medical examination form, and whether an examination is needed at all is stated in the IPA.
Bring both. We complete exactly what MOM has asked for — nothing more, nothing less.
MOM sets a specific order. Getting it wrong can cost you money.
Note the order at step 4. MOM's page reads: "Candidate's completed medical examination form. If certified fit to work, buy the Primary Care Plan for those who are required to have it." Buy it earlier and you may have paid for a worker whose pass is never issued.
If so, you must declare you have bought it before the S Pass can be issued.
If the candidate's Short-Term Visit Pass will expire before their results are ready, MOM lets you extend it.
See MOM — extend a Short-Term Visit Pass. Ask us for the memo when you book.
The two are governed differently. In particular, where the examination may be done.
| S Pass | Work Permit | |
|---|---|---|
| Is a medical always required? | No — the IPA states whether one is needed | Yes — before the Work Permit is issued |
| Where it may be done | By a Singapore-registered doctor, after arrival | Onboard centre, PCP Anchor Operator, or a local clinic — depending on the worker |
| Screens for | As set out on MOM's form; the IPA states if required | Tuberculosis, HIV, syphilis and malaria; fitness to work |
| Primary Care Plan | If in a dormitory (7+ workers) or CMP sector — declared before issuance | Where required, determines the examination venue |

Employing a Work Permit holder rather than an S Pass holder? The venue rules are stricter. See our Work Permit medical examination page before booking.
Provided the IPA calls for one.
It states whether a medical examination is required at all.
By a Singapore-registered doctor, using MOM's form.
Blood tests and on-site chest X-ray where required, in one visit.
Signed and certified, ready to submit when you get the pass issued.
No fasting is required. Chest X-ray can be completed on-site at our Suntec, Macpherson and Toa Payoh clinics. Need a doctor's memo to extend the candidate's visit pass while results are processed? Ask us.
The S Pass medical examination is an employer's cost, and is not covered by CHAS, Healthier SG or other national subsidy schemes. Send us your candidate's IPA and MOM's form, and we'll confirm the price for exactly what is required — and, first, whether a medical is required at all.
Send us your candidate's IPA and we'll confirm whether a medical examination is required — and if so, book them in at any of our clinics.
