Dependant Pass Medical Examination in Singapore

The Dependant's Pass is issued by MOM, not ICA — and the rules differ. When getting the pass issued, MOM asks for a completed medical examination form or medical declaration form. Read the IPA before you book, then bring the form to us.

Two things clinics routinely get wrong

First: the Dependant's Pass is a MOM pass, not an ICA one. Rules printed on ICA's Medical Examination Report form — the three-month report validity, the requirement that renewal applicants be examined in Singapore — do not govern a Dependant's Pass.

Second: MOM's own wording at issuance is "completed medical examination form or medical declaration form". Not every dependant needs an examination. Read the IPA letter and its attached declaration form first.

How long you have to get the pass issued

The IPA is a pre-approved single-entry visa. Its validity depends on the main pass holder.

Don't bring them in before the pass is approved

MOM states it plainly: "You should only bring in the foreigner when the pass is approved. They don't need to be in Singapore when you apply and we won't be able to extend their visit pass." If a dependant is already here on a visit pass that expires before the Dependant's Pass is issued, MOM will not extend it.

Almost nobody mentions this

Bringing a child aged 12 or under? Start their vaccinations now.

MOM's Dependant's Pass application form contains a section that applies to foreign-born children aged 12 years and below applying for a new Dependant's Pass or Long-Term Visit Pass.

Before the application can proceed, the child must be issued a “Verification of Vaccination Requirements (for entry to Singapore)” document by the Communicable Diseases Agency (CDA). The CDA reference number is then entered on MOM's form.

  • Applies to foreign-born children aged 12 and below, for a new DP or LTVP
  • CDA issues the verification document; MOM's form asks for the reference number
  • Catch-up vaccination takes time — start early, not the week you apply
  • We can review your child's records and give any doses they need

See CDA — vaccination requirements for foreign-born children and MOM's Dependant's Pass application form. Read more about the MMR vaccine.

The sequence

Where the medical fits in MOM's process

The dependant must be in Singapore when you get the pass issued.

  1. Apply and receive the IPA$105 per application. Most cases are processed within 3 weeks (6 weeks for dependants of PEP, EntrePass or EP (Sponsorship) holders). The IPA is a pre-approved single-entry visa.
  2. Bring the dependant to SingaporeOnly once the pass is approved. MOM will not extend a visit pass that expires before the Dependant's Pass is issued.
  3. Medical examination, if requiredA doctor completes the medical examination form issued with the IPA. Alternatively a medical declaration form may apply — check the IPA.
  4. Get the pass issuedUpload the passport page showing the arrival date, the completed medical examination or declaration form, and the declaration form attached to the IPA. Pay $225 per pass, plus $30 for a Multiple Journey Visa if applicable.
  5. Notification letter, then the cardValid 1 month. It states whether fingerprints and a photo are needed — within 2 weeks at the Employment Pass Services Centre for EP dependants, or 1 week at MOM Services Centre Hall C for S Pass dependants. The card arrives within 5 working days.

Dependant's Pass vs Long-Term Visit Pass

Both bring family to Singapore. They are not the same pass, and they aren't always issued by the same authority.

Dependant Pass medical examination FAQs

Who issues the Dependant's Pass — MOM or ICA?
The Ministry of Manpower. The Dependant's Pass lets spouses and children of Employment Pass, S Pass, Personalised Employment Pass and EntrePass holders join them in Singapore. It is not an ICA pass. The Long-Term Visit Pass, by contrast, may be issued by either MOM or ICA depending on the sponsor.
Is a medical examination always required for the Dependant's Pass?
Not necessarily. When getting the pass issued, MOM lists among the documents you may need to upload a 'completed medical examination form or medical declaration form'. Read the IPA letter and the declaration form attached to it before booking anything.
Where can I do a Dependant Pass medical check-up in Singapore?
Any Singapore-registered doctor can complete MOM's form. We offer the Dependant Pass medical check-up at all our clinics, with on-site chest X-ray at four of them, and can provide the doctor's memo if you need to extend the dependant's visit pass while awaiting results.
What tests are in the Dependant Pass medical examination?
MOM does not publish a fixed test list for the Dependant's Pass. The tests required are those on the medical examination form issued with the IPA. Bring the form with you — anyone quoting you a test list without seeing it is guessing.
How long do I have to get the Dependant's Pass issued?
It depends on the main pass holder. For a dependant of an Employment Pass holder, the IPA is valid for 6 months. For a dependant of an S Pass holder, it is valid for 2 months. Dependants of PEP, EntrePass and EP (Sponsorship) holders have 6 months.
Does the dependant need to be in Singapore?
Yes, to get the pass issued. But MOM is explicit that you should only bring the foreigner in once the pass is approved — they do not need to be in Singapore when you apply, and MOM will not extend a visit pass that expires before the Dependant's Pass is issued.
What if the dependant is waiting for medical results and their visit pass expires?
Once you have the IPA, you can extend their Short-Term Visit Pass. Submit the request 7 to 14 days before the STVP expires and upload the doctor's memo stating when the medical results can be collected. MOM's example: if the STVP expires on 17 February, submit between 4 and 10 February. Overstaying fines may be incurred for a late request.
What does the Dependant's Pass cost?
MOM charges $105 for each application, and $225 for each pass when it is issued, plus $30 for a Multiple Journey Visa where applicable. The medical examination is a separate cost, paid to the clinic.
Does my foreign-born child need vaccinations for the Dependant's Pass?
Very likely. MOM's Dependant's Pass application form has a section that applies to foreign-born children aged 12 and below applying for a new Dependant's Pass or Long-Term Visit Pass. The child must be issued a 'Verification of Vaccination Requirements (for entry to Singapore)' document by the Communicable Diseases Agency (CDA), and the CDA reference number is entered on the form. Start this early — catch-up vaccinations take time.
What happens after the pass is issued?
You'll receive a notification letter by email, valid for 1 month. It lets the dependant travel in and out of Singapore while waiting for the card, and states whether they must register fingerprints and a photo.
Where and when do we register fingerprints and photo?
Dependants of Employment Pass holders register at the Employment Pass Services Centre within 2 weeks of the pass being issued. Dependants of S Pass holders register at MOM Services Centre Hall C within 1 week. Bring the original passport, appointment letter, notification letter, and a mobile phone with a local number and both the Singpass and SGWorkPass apps installed.
When will the card arrive?
MOM delivers the card within 5 working days after the dependant registers and documents are verified — or within 5 working days of checking the documents, if registration isn't required. The digital pass can be viewed in the SGWorkPass app straight away.
Our baby was born in Singapore. What do we do?
ICA issues the parent a Special Pass, valid for 6 weeks, during which you can apply for a Dependant's Pass for the newborn.
Does the dependant need to fast for the medical?
No. Fasting is not required.
Is the Dependant Pass medical examination subsidised?
No. It is not covered by CHAS, Healthier SG or other national subsidy schemes.
How long does the Dependant's Pass application take?
MOM processes most applications from dependants of Employment Pass and S Pass holders within 3 weeks. Applications for dependants of EP (Sponsorship), PEP or EntrePass holders take up to 6 weeks in most cases.
